Morning Agriculture: List of Trump USDA Hires Goes Public — Questions Raised About Perdue’s Political History — On NAFTA Renegotiation and Good Cop, Bad Cop

LIST OF TRUMP USDA HIRES GOES PUBLIC: ProPublica has published a list of 40 new hires to the USDA beachhead team since President Donald Trump took office. The most interesting name on the list: Heidi Green, a business partner of Agriculture secretary pick Sonny Perdue who also served in his administration when he was governor of Georgia. In 2010, Perdue tapped Green to be commissioner of the Georgia Department of Economic Development; when he left office early the next year he made her a partner in his firm, Perdue Partners, a global trade consulting shop focused on boosting global exports from Georgia. Perdue’s cousin, Sen. David Perdue, was also involved in setting up the firm, as was another alum of Perdue’s administration.

Green is rumored to be on deck to become Perdue’s chief of staff if he’s confirmed, two sources tell MA. That said, we should note the beachhead teams consisted of temporary political appointees deployed across federal agencies in January to lay the groundwork for the president’s agenda. But storming the “beach” at a federal agency, so to speak, gives one a good chance of getting a formal gig there…
