We hope you can join us for our upcoming NM Food & Agriculture Policy Council Federal Committee meeting next Monday, December 6th, 2:00 – 3:30pm.    See zoom invite info below. Also sent a calendar invite.
We’ll review current progress on Congressional priorities and plan for 2022.  Here are a few agenda items (you all may have more) for group sharing of updates:- Updates on Reconciliation- Roll out of the Infrastructure Bill and other federal programs – all to provide highlights- Build Back Better Act (see some updates below)- Planning for 2022:     – Farm Bill Round Table (late February or early March)
Summary of Build Back Better (BBB) Act to date (I might not have all of the numbers right – please correct and add to):House has passed the Build Back Better Act. Hoping SEnate will take it up by December 20th. Some high;flights:- $12 billion debt relief for farmers (not specific to BIPOC yet is targeted to underserved farmers and ranchers)- $1 billion funding for research & 1890 land grant institutions, urban ag office, tribal scholarships- rural development- forestry- food and farm workers, $200 million Food Worker and Farm Worker Program for workers in meat packing, and farm operations. RFP open until Feb 8th.
– nutrition: BBB has a number of key nutrition provisions too… Here’s FRAC’s update…   The critical child nutrition provisions within the bill are expected to • expand the number of schools that would be able to offer free meals to all students through the Community Eligibility Provision; • give states the option to implement the Community Eligibility Provision statewide; • provide $30 million for school kitchen equipment; • provide $250 million for a Healthy School Meal Incentives demonstration project; • extend the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) program nationwide for students who receive free or reduced-price school meals; and • allow states, as well as Indian Tribal Organizations, that participate in the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) to provide Summer EBT.- EPA are looking for comments on ways to help protect farm workers.  Comment period.
